Kuwait has made significant adjustments to its work visa regulations. These changes will affect both companies and international workers as they seek to simplify procedures and meet the demands of a varied labor market.
The reform’s main component is the removal of the work permit system’s discrimination between foreign and domestic workers. This move to a standardized procedure is a component of Kuwait’s larger plan to promote a fairer work environment.
The Kuwaiti government makes sure that all workers, regardless of nationality, follow the same standards by standardizing the work permit procedures.
Processing charges
To reflect the current state of the economy, the government has increased the processing price for work permits for foreign workers from KWD 175 to KWD 325. The purpose of this adjustment is to account for labor market economic realities and pay for administrative expenses. Fee exemptions may be available to some international companies; however, eligibility will be assessed at the time of payment.
A new transfer charge
The establishment of a new early transfer charge of KWD 300 for foreign workers who change companies within three years of obtaining their work permit is one of the major changes to the legislation. This takes the place of the earlier setup where:
In general, transfers during the first six months of employment were forbidden.
Transfers lasting six to twelve months were subject to a KWD 300 charge.
