Lindsey Vonn is recovering well after undergoing her third surgery on a broken leg she sustained during a crash at the Winter Olympics on Sunday. She shared an update, saying she is “making progress” and expressed her gratitude to her teammates and fellow Team USA athletes for inspiring her.
A Legendary Career Marked by Comebacks
Vonn, who won the Olympic downhill gold in 2010, had hoped for a memorable finale to her skiing career. She retired in 2019 as the most decorated female skier of her time, overcoming multiple serious leg injuries along the way.
In a remarkable turn, Vonn returned to competitive skiing in 2024 after receiving a partial right knee replacement. Since her comeback, she has claimed eight podium finishes on the World Cup circuit, including two gold medals, and was considered a strong contender for a medal at her fifth Olympics.
Determination Despite Injury
Before the Games, Vonn suffered an ACL injury during the last World Cup race in Switzerland. Despite the setback, she remained determined to compete in Cortina, where she had achieved significant success earlier in her career.
Reflecting on her journey, Vonn said she had “no regrets,” adding, “I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it.” Her resilience and dedication continue to inspire fans and athletes alike.
