The Senate on Monday approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, targeting reforms in Pakistan’s military and judicial structures. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the 59-clause bill, which secured the necessary two-thirds majority with 64 votes in the 96-member Senate. The bill will now move to the National Assembly for final approval in a session scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.

He noted that the concept of Constitutional Courts was first proposed in the 2006 Charter of Democracy (CoD) signed by PML-N and PPP but was delayed during the 26th Amendment.
Addressing changes to the military’s internal structure, Sanaullah emphasized that these reforms are essential to meet modern operational requirements. He added that while consensus has yet to be reached on issues like health, education, and local governance, conversations are underway.
Senator Faisal Vawda hinted at the upcoming 28th Amendment, playfully distributing sweets to journalists outside the Parliament House, saying reporters should “get ready for the 28th.”
