Court Reasoning for Continued Custody The appeal court said the risk of reoffending remains similar to earlier assessments. It also noted a concern that contact with an alleged victim could happen again. The court rejected the argument that family illness should outweigh public safety concerns. A lower court had earlier ordered his release, but the appeal judges overturned that ruling. Defence Reaction His lawyers expressed strong disappointment after the decision. They said the ruling places him in a very difficult emotional situation due to his mother’s illness. Prosecutors continue to seek a prison sentence of seven years and seven months if he is convicted.
