Tyche, a “cutting-edge” satellite, is a component of a Ministry of Defence (MoD) program that supports environmental and natural catastrophe monitoring, mapping information generation, and tracking the effects of climate change in addition to supporting military operations.
“Tyche will provide essential intelligence for military operations as well as supporting wider tasks across government,” stated Maria Eagle, minister of defense procurement and industry.
Tyche further demonstrates the UK’s dedication to fostering scientific and technological innovation, promoting industry expansion, and bolstering the number of highly skilled employment in the country.
About the size of a washing machine, Tyche was created and manufactured in it.
Over a five-year period, the 150 kg spacecraft will be in low-Earth orbit.
“This is a fantastic day for UK space,” stated Major General Paul Tedman, the commander of UK space.
“The successful launch of Tyche has demonstrated the ability of UK Space Command, along with its vital allies in the military and business, to quickly develop an idea and put a satellite capability into orbit.
