North Carolina has been won by Republicans in the last three presidential contests, but the margin of victory has been razor thin—about 4% in 2016 and 1% in 2020—with the outcome usually coming down to a matter of a few thousand votes. Less over 14,000 votes separated former President Obama from the Republican victory in the state in 2008.
Leaders at the vanguard of the movement told News that they are concentrating their energy on promoting early voting and spreading their message as Republicans step up their get out the vote operations this year.
Ason Simmons, the chair of the Republican Party of North Carolina, stated to News that their door-knocking and grassroots activism have received an “overwhelming” response.
We’ve had a great reaction from all of our grassroots activists and have been very involved with them. People are energised. Simmons told news that “as I travel around the state, you see our Trump captains really engaging with North Carolina voters, taking the message of why it’s important to go out in this year more so than ever.” Every day, they knock on doors, make phone calls, and engage North Carolina voters in conversation about the most important issues.
