KARACHI: According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Pakistan has confirmed four additional polio cases, increasing the total number of cases in 2024 to 63.
The first polio case ever documented in Sukkur was among those reported in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Jacobabad, and Sukkur.
The EOC emphasized that the impacted youngster in Sukkur is a boy, and that this is the third case from Jacobabad and the ninth from Dera Ismail Khan.
A total of 26 polio cases have been reported in Balochistan, 18 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 in Sindh, and one in each of Punjab and Islamabad this year.
Children under five are primarily affected by the extremely contagious viral disease, especially those with weakened immune systems or insufficient immunizations.
