Following the death of a teenager last month that sparked concerns about the impact of social media on kids, Albania imposed on Saturday a one-year ban on the popular short video app TikTok, according to Reuters.
Following meetings with parent organizations and educators from all around the nation, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the prohibition, which is a component of a larger strategy to make schools safer, will go into force early next year.
“We’ll shut it down entirely for everyone for a year. “TikTok won’t exist in Albania,” Rama declared.
Children’s usage of social media is restricted in a number of European nations, including France, Germany, and Belgium. Australia enacted a comprehensive social media prohibition for Big Tech in November, one of the strictest laws in the world.
