Six Killed in West Bank Shooting
A shooting in the occupied West Bank has killed at least four Palestinians and two Israelis, making it the worst event there in months.
There are various stories of what happened in the northern town of Tal. Palestinians reported that neighbors challenged Jewish settlers who were assaulting them. According to an eyewitness, troops arrived and began firing.
Israel’s military says it responded to reports of hikers being assaulted. It stated that “terrorists stole the weapon” of a security guard and murdered him before being shot by soldiers. The remaining three victims were members of the same Palestinian family.
Israeli Soldier Killed in West Bank
Another Israeli, a soldier, was also murdered.
Since the beginning of the Gaza conflict, which was started by the Hamas-led onslaught on Israel on October 7, 2023, settlers have increased their attacks on Palestinians and their property in the West Bank.
According to Ahmed Zeidan, an eyewitness, the current incident began early in the morning when Tal residents ran to confront some 30 Israelis who were assaulting Palestinian homes.
He stated that hand-to-hand fighting broke out in the presence of Israeli forces.
Essam Saifi, a local Fatah party chairman in the governing Palestinian Authority, told Reuters that settlers opened firing before Israeli soldiers arrived and continued to shoot.
IDF Reports Deadly West Bank Attack
Palestinian officials said that numerous more Palestinians were injured.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the attack was launched by Palestinians.
The military claims that the climb was not coordinated with them.
A security guard from a nearby settlement outpost went to the scene and had his gun stolen by a Palestinian, who then used it against the Israelis, murdering him, according to the IDF.
Local media has extensively published two video snippets, which have not been independently authenticated.
One purports to depict a conflict between Palestinians and Israeli troops, as well as armed Israelis disguised in civilian clothes. Armed Israelis dressed in civilian clothes then shove and kick two Palestinian males.
The second video, recorded from a different viewpoint, appears to show both guys attempting to seize the pistols. There is a frantic situation, with many gunshots heard as he seems to fire, and troops responding.
The IDF reported that a 27-year-old soldier “fell during operational activity in the area of the village.”
