UK ‘supports Ukraine 100%’, Burnham says, after Russia’s drone warning

He said that drone strikes were affecting Russian residents' opinions of the country's capacity "to protect some areas" and "prevent" attacks. Russia has also stepped up its missile attacks across Ukraine in recent weeks. The Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz said on Monday that Russia has attacked its facilities thirteen times in the last week. Authorities say a guided aerial bomb hit a residential home in the Zaporizhzhia region, killing a man and a woman in Saturday night's Russian attacks on Ukraine. Five more people were killed in attacks around the country. Russia said that a drone component manufacturing business and a FirePoint facility that made parts for Ukrainian Flamingo missiles were the targets of its Saturday nite attacks on Kyiv.

Andy Burnham, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, stated that his country will continue “to support Ukraine 100%” in response to Moscow’s threat of “consequences” after it was confirmed that recent Ukrainian attacks in Russia were carried out using British-made drones.

“We are not fair-weather friends, we will be there in Ukraine’s hour of need and that won’t change,” he stated.

Earlier, the Russian embassy in the UK said that Britain was “deliberately opting for an escalation of the Ukraine crisis” and that “the deeper its involvement in the conflict… the higher the price it will pay.”

Russia Warns UK Over British Made Drones

Attacks on Moscow and other locations deep within Russia have intensified, with a focus on oil refineries and logistical facilities for its online merchant Wildberries.

The prime minister insisted that the UK was “providing support so that Ukraine can defend itself and that’s been the British position all the way through this conflict, by previous prime ministers – it remains the case with me” when asked about the Russian threat.

Andy Burnham Reaffirms UK Support for Ukraine

Russia has already cautioned the UK about its involvement in supplying Storm Shadow missiles and drone technology to Ukraine.

“London’s actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer,” the Russian embassy stated, but it did not specify the kind of danger Moscow was thinking about.

The most recent stage of the conflict has negatively impacted Russia’s economy and domestic petroleum supply.

UK Reaffirms Support for Ukraine

Since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the UK has been one of its main foreign allies. The United Kingdom is “committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s illegal invasion,” according to the Ministry of Defense.

Approximately one-fifth of Ukrainian land is presently under Russian control, but for months, Russian soldiers have had virtually little success on the front lines.

However, the number of victims behind the front lines has kept rising.

According to UN statistics, the number of civilian deaths in Ukraine last month—437—was the most since May 2022. A spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry informed the Tass news agency on Tuesday that 69 people, including three children, had died in the previous week.

Ukraine Expands Drone Attacks Deep Inside Russia

Ten of the 17 fatalities in the most recent Russian assault on Ukraine occurred early on Tuesday in the hamlet of Pechenihy in northeastern Ukraine.

Ten residents were killed by two missiles that struck private residences, a café, and a post office. In other places, two Ukrainians perished in Zaporizhzhia, two in Kherson, and three in Sumy.

Following a series of attacks on Russia by Ukraine, Moscow issued a warning to the United Kingdom. Over the weekend, five people were killed in a residential neighborhood of the southern country’s Rostov province.

In only the last two days, Ukrainian soldiers have fired hundreds of drones into the Moscow area. On Tuesday, regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said that a Wildberrie and a 10-year-old child had been injured.

Britain Boosts Military Support for Ukraine

Two British companies are known to have produced the drones that were deployed to Kyiv. A military source told the BBC that UK drones were used in recent attacks on Russia, which are said to have damaged the nation’s economy more than £35 billion.

The UK defense ministry said in April that it will give Ukraine tens of thousands of drones with long-range strike capabilities as part of its biggest military aid package to date.

Andy Burnham told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he “can count on the UK for as long as it takes” when he visited a British naval station late last month. Kyiv would have access to the UK’s new “Stone Cloak” technology, according to Burnham.

Ukraine Launches Hundreds of Drones at Russia

The deployment of UK drone technology in the conflict has long been criticized by Russia. Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, said in 2024 that drones with UK components and configurations were used to target Russian territory, including a fuel facility in the Rostov region’s Kamensky area.

How the conflict is “deeper” into Russia thanks to Ukraine
Russian officials said that some 620 drones were flown at the area around Moscow in the most recent Ukrainian strikes that occurred overnight.

More than 180 of the drones were destroyed by Russian air defenses, but many individuals were hurt, according to authorities.

About 822 drones were fired by Ukraine at Russia on Saturday nite, with 600 of them targeting Moscow.

Germany Raises Alarm Over Drone and Hybrid Threats

Hybrid warfare has received a lot of attention in relation to Russian threats against Ukraine’s Western allies.

Numerous occurrences with drones flying near key military and industrial installations have been recorded around Europe, even though they are seldom verified to be Russian-sponsored.

At Leipzig/Halle airport, which serves as a military hub for Germany and its NATO partners, a drone carrying explosives was defused near a Ukrainian cargo plane last week, prompting German officials to warn of a “real, very acute” risk from hybrid assaults.

The Berlin administration intends to provide its BND and BfV espionage agencies broad additional authority to combat drone threats and disrupt and hack adversaries.
