ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the government was working relentlessly to deliver significant reductions in energy costs in the upcoming months, since the industrial and agricultural sectors suffer difficulties as a result of high power bills.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad on Monday, the premier stated, “We are committed to easing the cost of doing business, and a competitive industrial sector is essential for economic growth.”
Following nationwide outcry that the addition of capacity payment charges had driven up power bills beyond the means of the inflation-stricken masses, the federal government was under tremendous pressure to reevaluate its power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the independent power producers (IPPs).
