MUZAFFARBAD: Former Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ disqualification has been overturned by the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK SC).
In April 2023, the AJK High Court declared Ilyas ineligible for two years while he was prime minister. Later, he appealed the decision to the AJK Supreme Court in an attempt to get relief.
After Ilyas, a supporter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), apologized to the Supreme Court for contempt of court, his disqualification was overturned.
Just two months before his sentence was set to expire in April 2025, the region’s highest court lifted the disqualification.
At a public event, Ilyas had criticized the judiciary for granting stay orders in cases involving government matters.
