WASHINGTON: In the event that Moscow and Kyiv do not step up their efforts to mediate an end to the conflict in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump has threatened to halt efforts within days.
In Paris, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier stated that the United States would “move on” if peace was not “doable.” The warning reflected this abrupt shift in U.S. sentiment.
Trump has been pressuring both sides for a truce, but despite multiple talks with Moscow, including an unscheduled call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he has not been able to wrangle any significant concessions from the Kremlin.
