DUBAI: Following President Donald Trump’s warning of military action, Iran and the United States agreed on Saturday to assign experts to begin creating a framework for a possible nuclear agreement, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.
Through an Omani official who relayed messages between them, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff engaged in nearly four hours of negotiations in Rome during their second indirect meeting in a week.
Trump has threatened to strike Iran unless it quickly comes to a new agreement that would stop it from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Trump renounced a 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and other powers during his first term in 2018.
