Hwang Dong-hyuk, the developer of Squid Game, said that he had considered a sequel before the release of season three.
The director stated, “I have thought about the idea of a spin-off,” in an interview with The Korea Times. During creation, there were times when I became interested in myself.
The South Korean director has previously considered a sequel set on the Squid Game universe.
“It will be a story that takes place between Seasons 1 and 2 if I create [a] spin-off. There [was] a three-year break between Season 1 and 2. Thus, I wish to demonstrate what they accomplished over those periods,” he has previously stated.
