The recent high-level meeting between US President Donald Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir was referred to by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif as a “historic milestone” in Pakistan-US relations, the most significant turning point in the two countries’ 78-year history.
The minister noted in a statement posted on social media site X and in a media interview that this was the first time in history that a sitting US president had formally invited and hosted the head of the Pakistani army, calling it a diplomatic victory that improved Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
“The way regional and international issues were discussed in this meeting underlined the importance of our beloved homeland on the global stage,” Khawaja Asif said. “The positive role that Pakistan can play was also recognized.
