The return of Edgar Lungu’s remains from South Africa has been blocked by his family, who claim the government has broken important agreements about his funeral.
After days of uncertainty and talks between the government and the family, the arrangements had been finalized, and his remains were scheduled to be taken back home on Wednesday on a private charter plane.
With the statement that it “finds it very difficult to believe that the government will stick to their end of the agreement,” the family has since canceled that plan.
“It is regrettable that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s mortal remains will not be returned today,” family spokesperson Makebi Zulu stated on Wednesday.
