A narrative verdict was recorded at an inquest held in the United Kingdom in 2018 stating that multiple blunt force injuries to the head sustained in the incident were the cause of CSgt Oxley’s death.
However, a recent translation of the Cypriot inquest’s proceedings shows the investigating officer’s testimony, which states that there was “sufficient evidence” to charge the other driver with “causing death by reckless/dangerous acts.”
According to the coroner’s report, the officer claimed that the reason no criminal charges were filed was “because the individual in question was an American Air Force soldier and the American authorities had taken over the investigation.”
The coroner’s report stated that: “There is testimony before me which demonstrates that possibly the actions, acts or omissions of third parties may have led to the death of the deceased.”
