LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will hold the first meeting of its Punjab parliamentary board today to finalize the establishment of the provincial government.
Maryam Nawaz, the party’s senior vice president and Punjab chief minister candidate, will preside and address the meeting at Jati Umra in Lahore at 2 p.m. today.
The PML-N scion will also explain her aims and agenda as the province’s future and first female chief minister, as well as methods for electing the Punjab assembly speaker and deputy speaker.
PML-N has nominated the Sharif family scion for the job of Punjab chief minister following her victory in the recent general elections on February 8.
She won one National Assembly and one provincial assembly seat in Lahore, respectively NA-119 and PP-159.
The News reported earlier today, citing party sources, that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would also return to Lahore from Murree for the meeting. If he does not arrive, he will address the meeting by video link.
According to party sources, PML-N newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly have been instructed to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, sources stated that all independents who joined the PML-N had submitted affidavits to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in this regard.
According to a senior PML-N representative, the party’s representation in the Punjab Assembly has increased to approximately 200 members after the reserved seats were added.
The party leader further stated that the PML-N has yet to announce the names of the speaker, deputy speaker, and cabinet members.
“It all depends on the PML-N’s negotiations with the PPP in the formation of the central government,” the party’s leader stated. He added that the PML-N may accommodate some PPP members in Punjab, which is why the identities of speaker, deputy speaker, and cabinet were kept secret.
