QUETTA: Ahead of the April 2 election, all 11 Senate seats from Balochistan—seven general seats and two seats each for women and technocrats—have been elected without facing any opposition. As a result, there won’t be any polling for these seats.
A day earlier, nine senators were proclaimed the winners, and the outcome for the two technocrat seats that remained was still pending.
Maulana Abdul Wasey of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and Bilal Khan Mandokhail of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have been elected to the reserved seats, according to a report by News.
Additionally, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, a former caretaker prime minister, was elected to the Senate from Balochistan unchallenged and is returning to the upper house as an independent running for a general seat.
Similar to this, general seats have also been won by Ahmed Khan of JUI-F, Sardar Umar Gorgej of the PPP, John Buledi of the National Party, Aimal Wali of the Awami National Party, and Syed Nasir and Agha Shahzeb Durrani of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Furthermore, the two women’s seats that were up for grabs in the province have been secured by PML-N and PPP. The elected candidates are Hasna Bibi of the PPP and Rahat Jamali of the PML-N.
