After shaking hands with the players, on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Ahsan Raza made the decision to end the game as soon as the rain started to fall again. In addition, the scheduled fixture throw was delayed by thirty minutes. Then, New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell chose to bat first after winning the coin toss.
Soon later, the players from both teams gathered for the national anthems, but additional rain forced a postponement of the event.
The second bout of rain was intense, making it look likely that the match would be called off before a ball was played.
