The source of the audio leaks could not be located, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) report stated, as disclosed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday.
During the hearing of the cases involving the leaked audio conversations of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar’s son and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Justice Babar Sattar questioned why the ISI submitted the report through the Ministry of Defence.
Mansoor Usman Awan, the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), retorted that the report ought to have been submitted via the Prime Minister’s Office. The ISI report indicated that the investigation required assistance from social media platforms.
The AGP stressed that the federal government had not given any intelligence agency, including ISI, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), or the Intelligence Bureau (IB), permission to record audio conversations.
He said the FIA was contacting telecom companies to find out where the recordings came from in order to comply with court orders.
