At London’s Noel Coward Theatre, the 85-year-old Lord of the Rings actor is currently playing John Falstaff in a production of Player Kings.
He was transported to the hospital for medical attention after falling during Monday night’s performance; the theater immediately announced that the shows on Tuesday and Wednesday had been canceled.
The Gandalf actor thanked “everyone for their kind messages and support” in the opening of Sir Ian’s article on X, which addressed the issue.
“My injuries have been diagnosed and treated by a series of experts, specialists and nurses working for the National Health Service.
They have given me assurances that my recuperation will be thorough and quick, and I am eager to get back to work.”
The production will resume on Thursday, although it’s unclear from an X statement if Sir Ian or a stand-in will be playing Falstaff.
The theater group stated, “We are excited to have audiences return to the Noel Coward Theatre on Thursday, June 20.
“We are happy to hear that Ian is healing nicely, and we anticipate having him back in the production as soon as he’s ready.
