Washington: Masood Khan, the Pakistani ambassador to the US, stated on Wednesday that the government and people of Pakistan place a high premium on interfaith harmony.

The ambassador stated, “The Government of Pakistan is making conscious efforts to strengthen intersocietal linkages and bring people together.”

Khan made these remarks at an interfaith discussion that the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, DC, USA, was hosting “to build bridges of understanding.” Attendees at the event included diplomats, think tanks, officials from the US Institute of Peace (USIP), the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), and a number of religious leaders.

The goal of the discussion, according to the embassy, was to promote unity and peace between various religious communities and assimilation society.

Ambassador Khan restated Pakistan’s dedication to promoting harmony and fortifying ties between different social groups.

“Such gatherings,” he said, “provide a platform for broader perspectives about each other’s faith.” He exhorted us to break down barriers that separate us and concentrate on our commonality.

Recall that the US State Department raised grave concerns regarding the persecution of religious minorities in Pakistan and a few other nations in its annual report on international religious freedom, which was released on Wednesday.

Speaking about religious minorities, Khan referred to the regrettable deaths of these people as crimes against humanity. He gave the audience the assurance that every effort is being made by the administration to stop religious intolerance and the misuse of blasphemy laws.
