ISLAMABAD Omar Ayub, the secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has an arrest warrant issued by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sargodha, while the party’s leaders are still involved in legal disputes.
In a statement on X, Ayub, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, revealed that the warrants have been issued and attacked the “desperate” authorities for their attempts to apprehend him.
“Bailable arrest warrants issued for me by ATC Sargodha, but Mianwali Police and Islamabad Police teams went to my Islamabad house to arrest me a few minutes ago,” he stated.
“The form 47 Federal Government, Punjab Government, and agencies must be very desperate to arrest the Leader of the Opposition in the PTI,” continued the prominent PTI politician, whose party just rejected his resignation from the top job.
PTI founder Imran Khan further attacked the authorities, saying they “will prove beyond doubt that there is no rule of law in Pakistan” and promising the party will keep up its “struggle” until he returns to power.
Following the PTI’s removal from office in April 2022, the party’s top leaders have been involved in legal disputes while also organizing nationwide anti-government demonstrations.
