John Healey stated that the laborious but necessary task of reorganizing the Ministry of Defence and all of its branches will be his top priority. This work will take time, and it “earns you no political bonus points.”
Speaking on the fringes of the NATO summit in Washington on Wednesday, he also hinted that assisting NATO in defending Europe against Russian aggression will take precedence over dispatching military aircraft, ships, and troops to Asia for exercises.
On the other hand, a fundamental element of the reasoning behind the previous administration’s defense review was a “tilt” toward the Asia-Pacific region.
News questioned Mr. Healey about the anticipated duration of the Strategic Defense Review, which is scheduled to begin next week.
“In less than a year, we’ll do that. We’ll carry it out correctly. We’ll work quickly,” he remarked.
“We will take this action in order to confront tough choices that must be made quickly, after which defense will serve as the cornerstone of a mission-led government that is essential to both national security and economic development and prosperity.
