ISLAMABAD: A district and session court’s decision to exonerate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the iddat case, also known as the un-Islamic nikah case, has drawn criticism from political analysts and specialists.
Extra Meetings Bushra’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka filed a petition against the couple’s marriage, and on Saturday, Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka accepted the former premier’s and his wife’s arguments against their conviction. The judge declared a reserved ruling in the case.
After a trial court determined that their nikah was fake, the cricketer-turned-politician and Bushra, his third wife, were given seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 500,000 each in February.
The couple did, however, contest their conviction and even filed a motion with the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Journalist and analyst Shahzaib Khanzada responded to today’s events by telling Geo News that the decision was a “necessary decision” that is very important to women.
He clarified the delicate nature of divorce and remarriage issues, particularly as they pertain to Pakistani women who must deal with difficulties following their split from their husbands.
“Whether it was anticipated or not, it was unquestionably a necessary option since the prior choice—the conviction—was terrible for women.
