According to a recent survey, there has been an alarming increase in student suicides in India, with occurrences rising faster than both the country’s population growth and general trends in suicide.
The study, “Student Suicides: An Epidemic Sweeping India,” was presented at the Annual IC3 Conference and Expo 2024 on Wednesday.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reports that whereas the number of suicides worldwide has risen by 2% annually, the number of suicides among students has climbed by 4% annually. Given that this percentage is twice as high as the national average, it is possible that underreporting has led to an even greater actual number of student suicides.
According to the research, 53% of all student suicides in 2022 were committed by male students.
