After defeating Artem Harutyunyan in July, the three-weight champion was supposed to make his second defense of the lightweight title.

Stevenson commented on X, “Unfortunately, my hand gave out on me. Let’s bounce back and take over boxing in 2025.”

On the undercard of the undisputed light-heavyweight world title bout between Russians Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, Stevenson and Cordina were scheduled to square off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In his 22 matches, the American has an undefeated record with 10 stoppages.

In August, 27-year-old Stevenson agreed to a promotional contract with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.

Hearn called Stevenson one of the “pound-for-pound greats” and he also endorses Cordina.

For the first time in his career, Cordina had experienced defeat and was getting ready to take a bold move up to lightweight.

In May, the 32-year-old fell short of Anthony Cacace of Northern Ireland, losing both his IBF super-featherweight title and unbeaten record.

Three Brits would have been competing for a world title on the event the following month, including Cordina.
