LAHORE: During an operation against unauthorized traffickers in the Kasur area, officials from the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department discovered a rare breed marsh crocodile, according to a report by News.
As directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the crackdown was initiated.
The 7-foot-long confiscated reptile is worth millions of rupees on the global market, and its skin and flesh are being sold illegally overseas.
The seized crocodile was moved to the Gatwala Wildlife Breeding Center, according to the authorities, who also added that a case had been filed against the alleged smuggler involved in the animals’ unlawful trafficking.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, a senior minister in Punjab, praised the wildlife department’s efforts to protect animals.
“The protection of animal rights is being ensured in the province for the first time,” she said.
