The foreign secretary praised Ms. Gray as a “superb public servant” after she resigned on Sunday after receiving derogatory briefings for weeks, which included the disclosure of her pay.
Less than 100 days into Labour’s premiership, she announced her resignation. Mr. Lammy responded, saying, “It’s a young government and we get on with the work ahead of us.”
He congratulated Ms. Gray on her new position as the PM’s ambassador for the UK’s countries and regions and thanked her for her work.
Ms. Gray resigned after some Number 10 criticized her perceived strength and talents.
Ms. Gray received £170,000, which is more than the prime minister, while other special advisors reportedly had their salary preserved at the same amounts as when they were in opposition despite having far greater jobs.
She claimed that she quit because she could see that the harsh criticism of my position ran the risk of drawing attention to itself.
