Chino Moreno, the frontman for the Deftones, recently said that it was “mind-blowing” that Madonna gave him the “thumbs up” when they were originally signed.
The Queen of Pop co-founded Maverick Records in 1995, and the band was one of its first signings.
The legendary artists put out five albums, including their first, Adrenaline, on the company that shut down in 2009.
“We were first discovered by [A&R rep] Guy [Oseary], and he and [Maverick co-founder] Freddy DeMann flew us from our base in Sacramento to Los Angeles, where we played a couple of songs for them in a little rehearsal space,” Moreno told the Irish Times.
