Important changes to the Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which raise the minimum value of diyat from 30,663 grams to 45,000 grams of silver, have been approved by the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
According to The News, the Standing Committee’s chairman, Senator Farooq Hamid Naek, presided over the meeting on Friday at Parliament House.
In light of inflation and public expectations, the updated figure attempts to standardize the financial component of remuneration while also reflecting shifting economic realities.
The committee unanimously passed important public-centered reforms that aim to improve access to justice and advance legal equity, demonstrating a strong commitment to public welfare and legislative responsiveness.
