Following Daniel Murphy’s incredible run in 2015, the Mets were searching for their first World Series trip since the 2015 season, and Los Angeles was seeking their first since the 2020 season, which was marred by the coronavirus.
After the tension subsided, the Dodgers took the lead early on and won the game 9-0 without ever looking back.
Kodai Senga, the Mets’ starter, was taken early by the Dodgers. After he got Shohei Ohtani to cut out to second base, he walked Teoscar Hernandez, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts. Max Muncy managed to get some runs in after Will Smith flied out to center field.
Betts and Freeman scored the game’s first two runs after Muncy’s single.
Senga walked Gavin Lux in the second inning. Tommy Edman made a sacrifice to third base, and Lux went to second base. The Dodgers took a 3-0 lead after Ohtani’s hit scored Lux.
