Allama Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), made it clear on Wednesday that the organization would discuss the withholding tax issue at its upcoming meeting.
His comments followed the CII’s press release declaring that withholding taxes on withdrawals and transfers of funds were prohibited under Sharia (Islamic law).
“The note-taking staff misunderstood that withholding tax had been declared un-Islamic,” the CII chairman told Geo News.
“A number of council members opposed withholding tax,” Dr. Naeemi continued.
“When the food was served, they left the meeting because the staff believed that the withholding tax was declared against Sharia,” he stated.
