On Wednesday, the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved a number of important measures, one of which was the commercial importation of used automobiles into Pakistan.
The Cabinet Division claims that until June 30, 2026, the ECC has permitted the importation of used automobiles up to five years old. The age restriction will then be completely lifted.
However, the imported cars will have to adhere to safety and environmental regulations.
The ECC also voted to levy a 40% regulatory charge on automobiles under five years old, with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb serving as its virtual chair.
Beginning in 2026, this fee will be progressively lowered by 10% annually, with a full phase-out anticipated by fiscal year 2029–2030.
