After strong Typhoon Ragasa tore down trees, destroyed fences, and blasted signs off buildings in Guangdong Province, hundreds of thousands of residents in southern China were cleaning up Thursday.
After blowing over Hong Kong and killing at least 14 people in Taiwan, Ragasa roared into Guangdong, which is home to tens of millions of people, on Wednesday with winds of excess to 145 kilometers per hour (90 miles per hour).
Road signs and debris littered the streets, while AFP journalists at the impact zone around Yangjiang on Thursday observed fallen trees.
Authorities have not recorded any storm-related fatalities, but residents were still working to clean up the damage in the lingering light rain and breeze.
