Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Communications, has instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to put building new roads ahead of patching existing ones.
The minister voiced concern that improper accounting in repair work leads to corruption during a special meeting on Friday at the NHA headquarters. He directed officials to assess the right-of-way every three months and to contract out its management. To achieve specified goals, a clear policy should be created.
In order to make the NHA a self-sustaining organization with an annual revenue objective of Rs. 5,100 billion, the minister called for its restructuring in accordance with corporate sector models.
