In an effort to put an end to the political turmoil that has resulted in the resignation of five prime ministers in less than two years, President Emmanuel Macron of France was under increasing pressure on Tuesday to step down or call a snap parliamentary election.
The centrist president, 47, has stated time and time again that he will serve out the remainder of his second term, which expires in 2027.
Resignation calls, which were previously limited to the periphery, have gained traction during one of the most severe political crises since the establishment of the Fifth Republic, the present political structure in France, in 1958.
