The Guardians defeated the New York Yankees 7-5, cutting their ALCS deficit to two games to one, thanks to two two-run home runs in the ninth and tenth innings.
The Cleveland Guardians, who have played six-inning games all season, were 76-2, including in the postseason, while ahead after six innings as of Thursday. However, things did not go as planned on Thursday night.
Emmanuel Clase entered to face the struggling Aaron Judge after Hunter Gaddis walked Juan Soto with two outs in the eighth.
The Yanks weren’t finished yet, though, as Judg took Clase deep to tie the game. The Bronx Bombers took a 4-3 lead after the following batter, October superstar Giancarlo Stanton, hit a solo home run. Clase had allowed two home runs during the regular season but two in a three-pitch stretch.
In the ninth, Gleyber Torres added a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to two runs, but the Guardians scored the tying run at the plate down to their final out. Jhonkensy Noel tied the game with a deep two-run homer on the first ball he saw.
