At the Second World Summit for Social Development, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need for global financial reforms, including debt relief and fair taxation, to help developing countries pursue social justice and sustainable growth.
He highlighted that current international financial systems unfairly burden poorer nations, restricting their ability to invest in education, healthcare, and other people-focused initiatives. Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to inclusive development, poverty reduction, decent work, equality, and human rights for all citizens.
The president expressed full support for the Doha Political Declaration, stating that Pakistan’s policies prioritize people’s welfare and sustainable development.
Showcasing Pakistan’s achievements, he mentioned the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which has provided assistance to over nine million families through financial support, healthcare, and education, making it one of the world’s leading social protection models.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to achieve 90% literacy and ensure that every child goes to school within the next five years.
Additionally, Zardari highlighted initiatives such as the National Youth Internship Programme and climate-resilient housing projects, which empower young people and promote environmental sustainability through projects like mangrove restoration.
