Renowned educationist and literary scholar Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra passed away on Monday, leaving an indelible mark on Pakistan’s academic and cultural landscape. Confirmed by writer and academic Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed, Dr. Zehra was celebrated for her immense contributions to literature, education, and the promotion of the Urdu language.
She earned her Master’s degree in Urdu from Government College Lahore and completed her PhD in History at the East-West Center, University of Hawaii. From 1986 to 2009, she served as the Principal of Government College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore, shaping generations of students through her dedication and intellect.
Fluent in seven languages, Dr. Zehra was actively involved in numerous educational, administrative, social, and cultural committees, fostering learning, dialogue, and inclusivity. Her scholarly achievements and tireless efforts to advance the national language earned her widespread respect.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over her passing, paying tribute to her contributions and offering condolences to her family, students, and the academic community.
