A new report from the grassroots group RootsAction is trying to explain what went wrong for Democrats in the 2024 election. The Democratic National Committee had planned to release its own review, but that report never came out. So RootsAction stepped in with what it calls a “Democratic Autopsy.”
The report says party leaders relied too much on corporate donors, dismissed progressive voices, backed endless military spending, and drifted away from working people. Because of that, the party slowly lost trust and support.
Norman Solomon, who helps lead RootsAction, says you cannot fix what you will not face. If leaders refuse to look at mistakes, the same problems will keep happening. He believes the party needs to reconnect with regular people, not just big donors and insiders.
What the Report Says Went Wrong
- Party leaders stayed close to corporate power
- Progressives inside the party felt ignored
- Military spending kept growing
- Working class voters felt forgotten
Why People Are Talking About This
RootsAction says the party risks losing more ground if it keeps avoiding honest reflection. The report warns that silence and denial make it easier for autocratic politics to grow. Real change starts with telling the truth.
Norman Solomon’s Message
Solomon says you need to learn from history. If you skip the hard lessons, you repeat the story. He wants the party to build trust again from the ground up.
