Cricket Australia (CA) declared on Wednesday that wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis would be Australia’s captain for the third ODI in the current series and the ensuing T20I series against Pakistan.
In order to get ready for the Border-Gavaskar Test series against India, which starts on November 22, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Marnus Labuschagne withdrew from the third ODI.
Josh Philippe, Spencer Johnson, and Xavier Bartlett have been called up to bolster the team for Sunday’s last ODI in Perth.
Selectors chose Inglis to lead because regular T20I captain Mitchell Marsh and interim captain Travis Head were on paternity leave. They chose Inglis’ leadership background with Australia A above more experienced players like Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell.
