Danish apps helping consumers boycott U.S. products surge
Following Trump’s threats over Greenland, Danish consumers are taking action against American products. Two apps that show whether a product is made in the U.S. and suggest local alternatives have jumped to the top of the Danish App Store.
Non-USA app leads the surge
NonUSA became the No. 1 app on Wednesday after rising from No. 6 the day before. It had started the month at No. 441. The app lets users scan product barcodes to check their origin and recommends local Danish alternatives.
Its top markets are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland, showing a Nordic trend in boycotting American goods.
Made O’Meter also climbs
Made O’Meter, available on iOS and Android, reached No. 5 on the App Store. Though smaller than NonUSA, it contributes to a broader increase in downloads for these types of apps.
Together, the average daily downloads for NonUSA and Made O’Meter have jumped 867 percent in the past week compared to the previous week.
Smaller market, big impact
Denmark’s App Store sees about 200,000 downloads per day. Even a few thousand downloads in a day can push an app into the top 10. Other top apps in Denmark include Rejsekort, Shop, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Authenticator.
The surge in these apps reflects a growing grassroots effort among Danish consumers. Many are canceling U.S. vacations and unsubscribing from U.S.-based streaming services like Netflix.
