In a startling increase in violence against civilians in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian army has started arming its soldiers with the recently created “Asmi” machine pistol, thus increasing concerns about the safety of the local populace.
Developed in partnership with India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the “Asmi” is a hybrid weapon that may be used as a sub-machine gun or a pistol.
The Kashmir Media Service claims that the weapon is designed especially for use in house raids and other military operations, which heightens concerns about additional violations of human rights in the area. Civil society appeals for a ban on the weapon have increased in volume as the Indian military continues its oppressive acts, pointing out the dangers it poses to the already defenseless populace.
