After authorities evacuated nearly 82,000 people due to concerns of more deadly floods in the Chinese capital, Beijing removed a severe weather notice on Tuesday but cautioned citizens to remain watchful against natural disasters.
A red rainstorm warning, the strongest in a four-tier system, was issued by the local meteorological office on Monday, predicting significant rainfall until Tuesday morning.
Early on Tuesday morning, the agency canceled the advisory, stating on social media that the weather system had weakened as it moved east.
However, it went on to caution that residents “must not let up after strong rains have passed” since landslides or other calamities could occur as a result of isolated downpours in the city’s outer regions.
