Participants have filed lawsuits against the show’s producing firms, MrB2024 and Amazon.
The show, which debuted in March, promised to be the largest live game show globally and gave 1,000 contestants the opportunity to win a $5 million (£3.5 million) cash prize.
However, participants in a complaint that was submitted to a Los Angeles court on Monday claim they were sexually harassed, mistreated, and not compensated.
Five contestants who have remained anonymous have filed claims in the court documents, some of which have been redacted, on behalf of all participants.
They allege that the production crew denied them privacy and access to the outside world, kept them under constant observation, and dictated when they slept and what they wore.
It states that they were “underfed and overtired,” with meals given “sporadically and sparingly,” putting the competitors’ “health and welfare” at jeopardy.
The 54-page paper also includes charges of dangerous sets, inadequate background checks that permit participation by convicted felons, and an unsafe environment where contestants are confined to limited quarters.
It asserts that some people suffered physical harm and did not have proper access to healthcare.
