LAHORE: Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have allegedly been ousted from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee in response to the national team’s underwhelming performance at the T20 World Cup 2024, according to a late-night report by Geo News, which cited sources.
The captain and head coach are among the seven members of the panel that still include Bilal Afzal, Asad Shafiq, and Muhammad Yousuf.
The sources claimed that the PCB management had lost faith in the pair and that their suggestions had stopped being considered for some time.
“They had a big say in who made the T20 World Cup squad, and they were more supportive of the players who didn’t perform well.”
The men’s national selection committee was reformed by the board, which now has equal authority.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced “major surgery” to enhance the team’s performance after the disastrous T20 World Cup and has begun conversations in this respect.
On Tuesday, the PCB chairman presided over two significant meetings. He first had a meeting to discuss crucial issues with Pakistan’s red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie, and white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten.
