After a shooter opened fire on Friday, prompting onlookers to run for shelter, bullet holes were left in parked automobiles and store windows.
Before the gunman was taken into custody, two police officers who had retaliated with gunfire were among the injured.
The event happened at the Mad Butcher store in Fordyce, a little over 3,000-person city 65 miles south of Little Rock, at approximately 11.30 a.m. local time.
“It’s tragic, our hearts are broken,” Arkansas State Police Director Colonel Mike Hagar said to reporters.
Police identified Travis Eugene Posey, 44, as the gunman.
Posey was brought to the police station and accused of three murders.
The inmate registry indicates that there are still unresolved charges and no court date has been scheduled.
The injuries to Posey and the cops were not life-threatening, but according to Col. Hagar, the other injuries varied from “not life-threatening to extremely critical.”.
The reason behind the shooting was initially unknown, as was whether the majority of the shooting happened inside or outside the store.
A city council member named Roderick Rogers saw the attack.
He claimed to have witnessed individuals running in all directions in search of protection, saying, “People were just jumping into cars to get to safety.”
